Chess Tempo (Tactics Webpage)

I found out about an alternative to the Chess Tactics Server today (hat tip to BDK from his comment on Polly's blog here). I've added it to my sidebar.

Besides a better layout, it has separate ratings for accuracy and speed of solution. One of my beefs with the CTS is that you have to solve the problems within a few seconds, so if you're trying to train yourself not to make hasty moves it can be counter-productive.

I use them both but have used Tempo much more, especially since learning of Tempo. The Tempo ratings for blitz seem to run much higher than the CTS ratings. I've only done blitz....

I like them both but dislike some aspects of both.

CTS does not work right in Firefox (maybe it is a setting I have, not FF in general?) and forces me to use IE.

I do like the selection of problems and solutions much better at CTS ...

I have no trouble with Firefox. Do you have NoScript installed, and if so, have you allowed the CTS site?

I also dig the Tempo site- thanks for finding it!

i always said, or say:

CTS for speed, and

CT-Art 3.0 for calculation.

CTS, IMHO is not a place to learn tactics, but a place to practice quick sight of the board, as an engrained habit.

i am dktransform at CTS, and dogWaste there (40th out of 2400 for tries, and top ten for accuracy), and i NEVER use firefox there. not as good. my two cents.

I've used a lot Chesstempo but then I've discovered Ideachess and I train tactics there. I'm rather weak and on Ideachess you solve tactics against the computer and you can immediately see why your moves are not the best.
